Kiwanis Club of Hawthorne

Our Mission:

Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the

world one child and one community at a time.

The Kiwanis Club of Hawthorne, California is a fun loving service club dedicated on making Hawthorne a better place - especially for our youth. Kiwanians are volunteers changing the world through service. No problem is too big or too small. Why? Because by working together, many can achieve what one person cannot accomplish alone.

We raise funds through a community carnival and firework sales that help support our youth through scholarships and sponsorship of our High School Key Clubs. In addition, the Club supports a number of community causes and hosts an annual Christmas Senior Luncheon. Check out our Events page for more on our Service Projects.

A TRIBUTE TO OUR FRIEND

SHERRI

On Friday, January 30 our long-time member and friend, Sherri Skaff, peacefully passed away. Her sister Jenipher Bach said she went to sleep and just didn’t wake up.

Sherri joined our Club in 2000, was Secretary from 2002 to 2018 and was our backbone. During her time as an active member, she was always there to be a big part of whatever was going on. When we had a firework stand, she’d be there about every day managing the stand, selling pyrotechnics and taking care of business. During our carnival years, she would put in many hours in the ticket booth and slug it out about every night. Wherever help was needed you’d see Sherri quietly stepping in to take care of it. Over Labor Day weekend in 2018 she was in a horrific car accident on the freeway that nearly took her life but caused her to spend many months in the ICU and numerous recovery facilities. Jenipher, brother-in-law Steve, her niece Stephanie and other family members and friends have been caring for her ever since.

For eighteen years Sherri was a huge part of our Club and we all loved her. But for the past seven and a half years missed seeing her at our gatherings. Her absence leaves a hole in the family and we ask you to pray that her family will be comforted. One thing though, we believe where Sherri is now, she’s not complaining.
